Furnishing the house of Pingouin & Raptor

Time passes and I'm making slow but steady progress!

For the last 2 months, I've been showing the game to my friends. They gave me tons of new ideas and confirmed some I already had. It's been so much fun to watch them play, overall people found the game nice and pretty. 😊
Now I have a lot of work ahead of me!
I try to divide my long to-do list into small tasks to not get overwhelmed by the whole thing. 😋

My goal for August was to get the 1st floor of the house ready for an Android version and more playtesting.
The 5 levels of the house are almost complete!

For every room, I have to draw a background and 35 different items. This is the new kitchen:

I also finally designed the title of the game:

For September my goal is to add more life into the game! I will mainly work on GFX and animations.
I still hope to have a first light version of the game by the end of the year!

Building the house of Pingouin & Raptor

Pingouin & Raptor: Hidden Object will take place in a big house in the countryside.
You'll visit every room with Petit Grou the little velociraptor, to find out where Pingouin has decided to sleep!

To build this house, I first used an old design from my Fantasy Town assets package (on the Asset Store).

I added an aisle, a glasshouse and a tower to get more rooms!

Then I refined it according to what I need for the game. I also made accurate floor plans that will be used in the level selection:

Time to put everything in a 2-point perspective for the splashscreen!

Rough
Basic shapes
 Details and lights

And that's what it will look like in the game:

I still need to add the title, that I haven't designed yet.
The game is getting a little bit more real everyday! 😃

Pingouin & Raptor: Hidden Object Announcement

I can finally announce "Pingouin & Raptor: Hidden Object" is now in production!
Last year, I've been struggling with its development, I used löve2D and lua (that I used for my other games) for its prototype and couldn't find how to get things working from there.
Fortunately, this January, Jon from Tuesday Quest suggested he could help me start over with Unity. It made a lot of sense, I use Unity on a daily basis for Hungry Cat Picross, game jams and the Asset Store so I'm quite familiar with it!

And so we did!
At the start C# was very alien to me, and it took a while before I could do anything by myself, but I finally have a new prototype done, and a good base I can manage to add content.

Here are a few screenshots from the Android version: (Yeah I can play it on my phone already \o/)

Now my friends help me playtest the game to figure out the next steps!

There's a huge amount of work awaiting me but I hope to release a first version of the game before the end of the year. 😎

AFK Arena

At the end of 2018, I discovered this new mobile game: AFK Arena. (link: Google Play)
I fell in love with the art direction of this game and it inspired me a LOT!!!

I quickly started a pixel art collection of its characters, and 8 months later it's getting huge:

First I made those 100x100 pixels little fanarts of my favorite characters, then I got carried away and almost made them all.

Process: I use the app Pixaki on an iPad with an Apple Pencil, sometimes I finalize my work on Photoshop.

They keep adding characters to the game so I always  have a few more to add ^^

As a pixel artist I train regularly on small pieces and it became a perfect theme for character studies!

On the side I made bigger fanarts from their illustrations (which are absolutely stunning, look at those!)

I'm learning and improving a lot through this and I hope I will keep up for a long time!

Thank you AFK Arena! ^^

More Pixel Art!

The results of a very creative month!

A pixel a day! I made even more pixel doodles than I intended to!

Fanarts:
Haku from Spirited Away

Quetzalcóatl from Final Fantasy VIII

Madeen from Final Fantasy IX

Trico from the Last Guardian

Now I have a very long list of characters/creatures I want to draw! I also want to make a new package of sprites for the Asset Store, in pixel art. And to start coding again...

Need a good schedule! ^^

Pixel Art

Lately while I scroll my Twitter timeline, which is full of awesome pixel artists, I caught myself thinking "Oh I wish I could make pixel art too!" wait... that's what I do for a living 😶, like, every week I have to produce several levels for Hungry Cat Picross, and even if it's very small (usually 30*45 pixels wide), well that's still pixel art with heavy color constraints! 😅
Also, I started to push pixels more than ten years ago and that's what got me my first job as an artist in the video game industry...

So I decided to use more time for pixel art, to make small experimental pieces and bigger, ambitious ones, and to give a shot on pixeljoint weekly challenges again. We'll see where it leads!

Everyday I create a small piece (100*100 pixels wide) with a restricted palette of 5 or 6 colors. I'm having a lot of fun with this, exploring whatever inspires me!

I mostly use the old Pixaki app on my iPad, it's nice to work from the couch 😃

Weekly challenges on pixeljoint:

I made this one for Grimmla's challenge on DeviantArt, this is Bask, one of her original characters!

I'm currently working on this fanart of Kalameet, the black dragon from Dark Souls!

So far it's been more satisfying to explore pixel art than digital painting, maybe I am a pixel artist after all?! 😆
